ISSUES TREATED DURING PSYCHOTHERAPY SESSIONS IN FLORENCE

Affective disorders

Affective disorder, is mental disorder characterized by dramatic changes or extremes of mood. I use it also to define a mild to light emotional disregulation that can happen to all of us.
Affective disorders may include manic (elevated, expansive, or irritable mood with hyperactivity, pressured speech, and inflated self-esteem) or depressive (dejected mood with disinterest in life, sleep disturbance, agitation, and feelings of worthlessness or guilt) episodes, and often combinations of the two.

Anxiety disorders

Anxiety disorders are a group of mental disorders characterized by significant feelings of anxiety and fear. Anxiety is a worry about future events, while fear is a reaction to current events. These feelings may cause physical symptoms, such as increased heart rate and shakiness.
Anxiety is often related to fear, sadness, powerlessness. My aim with these emotions is to find their reason-to-be and connect with the parts of us that carry those emotions.

Teenage problems

Problems concerning teen agers and young adults, who are faced with choices and challenges, about career, social life, adapting to the world.
What is usually needed is an external point of view and an alliance where there is no judgement and a bit of guidance that help verbalize one’s malaise and problems. Someone in the middle between the pressure of the peer group and the family.

Sexuality related problems

Pretty often problems in sexuality have to do with unresolved issues in the couple. It is fundamental not to judge or put the blame on anyone, and cope with them together.
If one is a single, and experiencing erectile problems, issues with desire, vaginismus or something else, it is appropriate to explore the personal history and what is weighting on the sex life. Therapy is designed to be a safe place where is possible to talk  about these, not always shame free, topics.

Parenting issues

Parenting is the most difficult job that we face in life, thousands questions arise for every phase of our children’ lives. Often raising a child of our own triggers our own experience, therefore questioning what we imagined it to be, talking about it, is important as brings awareness to critical aspects and helps us understand that there are no recipes or truths given. Exactly as for therapy, parenting is a lifelong dance, to be learned every day.

Personality disorders

Personality disorders are a group of mental illnesses. They involve long-term patterns of thoughts and behaviors that are unhealthy and inflexible. The behaviors cause serious problems with relationships and work. People with personality disorders have trouble dealing with everyday stresses and problems.
Therapy’s purpose is to find comfortability in every day life, compromising with reality and look for an equilibrium.

Relational problems

Hard relationships, fears connected to other people, rejection, fear of abandonment.
Relational problems cover many different things, starting from affection affective disorders, which determines the quality of our relations. How do you feel about it? How do you menage that? Do you feel comfortable? Those are some of the questions we need to answer in order to give ourself the space we deserve to live our life at its best.

Eating disorders

Food addiction is a behavioural addiction characterized by the compulsive consumption of food, tending to be high in fat and sugar, which activate the systems of gratification. As all addictions it has implications on one functioning in daily life.
The disorders of nutrition, such as anorexia, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, can be worked on in therapy, treating them like symptoms that have something to say about the patient’s life. In cases that are severe, the individual work is not appropriate and therapy will be held with a team of different professionals (psychiatrist, dietist, MD)
